Yes, they are totally worth it! E-skateboards are a super fun and chill way to zip around town. Plus, they are eco-friendly, user-friendly, and can even give you a good workout if you pick the right one that's an all-terrain model that climbs hills.
For beginners, it's best to start with a good quality, budget-friendly e-skateboard like the MAX ONE model by Maxfind - it's got increased security, portability, smooth acceleration and braking.
A beginner e-skateboard also needs to be in a comfortable size to ride, which is when the deck width is 7.75" or 8.0".
E-skateboard sizes are usually measured in inches, and they typically range from 7.5 to 8.5 inches in width.
To pick the right skateboard, you should think about your shoe size and how it matches the width of the deck. If you wear men's shoe sizes from 6.5 to 9, it's a good idea to go for a deck that's 7.5 to 8.0 inches wide. If your shoe size is 9.5 or bigger, you should consider a deck that falls between 8.0 and 8.5 inches in width.
Keep in mind that these are just general recommendations, and your personal preference plays a big role in choosing your skateboard.
We hope this guide has been useful in helping you choose the best electric skateboard for your needs. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us or visit our flagship Auckland store or any of our dealers located NZ-wide. Yes, you can ride e-scooters in parks and public spaces, but keep those wheels under 355mm and the motor's power under 300W. You're good to go on the footpath and road; just stay near the edge and remember to leave the cycle lanes for the bikers!

Electric Skateboard Maintenance: Keeping Your Ride in Top Shape
Charging Your Electric Skateboard Battery: A Balancing Act
The foundation of your electric skateboard, the deck is typically made from wood, composite materials, or carbon fibre. It's essential to choose a deck that suits your riding style, offering stability for cruising or flexibility for tricks.
Explore the electric skateboard range at Storm Rides here.
Trucks are metal components that attach the wheels to the deck. They come in various widths, providing stability and control.
When you lean on the deck of an e-skateboard, your weight shifts to the trucks, making the board turn in the direction you lean. Without trucks, your board would simply go straight, regardless of your leaning. Simply put, tightening or loosening your weight on the deck and then towards the trucks can affect how the board turns and handles.
At the heart of the electric skateboard is the motor, which is responsible for propelling you forward. It turns electricity into motion, converting power to the wheels through pulleys or belts. There are two types:
The battery is like the powerhouse for an electric skateboard, giving life to its motor and electronics. Without it, it's just a regular skateboard. It’s also the heaviest and priciest part of an e-skateboard and determines the range and cost - the bigger the battery, the longer the range and the higher the price.
Most batteries use lithium-ion, though lithium polymer and LiPro4 are also options. Lithium-ion batteries are common due to their energy density and reliability.
Additionally, pay attention to the battery's charging time and lifespan. Look for high-quality skateboards from reputable brands like Maxfind and Summerboard so you can trust that they have used a quality battery. Going for cheaper alternatives often means compromising on the battery quality.
See our long-range electric skateboards here
The ESC controls the speed and braking of the electric skateboard. It communicates with the remote control and manages the power output of the motors.
If you want more control over your ride, choose electric skateboards that come with multiple speed modes, like Maxfind’s Max 2 Pro skateboard, so you can adjust the performance based on your experience and confidence.
MAXFIND ELECTRIC SKATEBOARD - MAX 2 PRO
The Max 2 Pro has a top speed of 38Kph. Other top features include thumbwheel for acceleration and braking, FOUR speed modes, reverse AND cruise control!
Electric skateboard and longboard wheels are just like regular ones, mostly made of sturdy polyurethane. For off-road electric skateboards, special pneumatic (air-filled) rubber wheels are used because they can handle rugged terrain better than solid polyurethane.
E-skateboard wheels vary in size and sturdiness. Bigger wheels mean a faster and more stable ride. The wheels are able to spin thanks to the bearings inside them, with smoother bearings giving a smoother ride.
Budget plays a big role when choosing e-skateboards. Our electric skateboards range in price from $495 to $2,295, depending on the features and components. While it's essential to find a board that fits within your budget, don't compromise on quality and safety.
Finally, consider the warranty offered by the manufacturer. A solid warranty can provide peace of mind and protection for your investment. All Storm Rides products come with a 12-month or 1,500-kilometre RTB warranty.
Here are some things to do regularly to keep your electric skateboard in top shape:
Charging your electric skateboard battery properly is crucial for its longevity and safety. Here are some essential tips:
Electric skateboards offer a thrilling way to commute and explore, but understanding their parts, performing regular maintenance, checking the skateboard's IP rating for water resistance and charging the battery correctly is key to a safe and enjoyable ride. By taking care of your electric skateboard, you'll be able to experience the wind in your hair and the thrill of the ride for many miles to come.

]]>Before diving into the world of electric skateboards, it's important to understand your riding style.
Identifying your riding style will help you narrow down your choices and select the most suitable electric skateboard.
Explore the electric skateboard range at Storm Rides here.
The deck size and material play a significant role in the overall ride quality and comfort. Generally, electric skateboard decks are made from wood, bamboo, or carbon fibre.
Consider the type of material that best suits your riding style and the terrain you'll be tackling.
There are two main types of electric skateboard motors: hub motors and belt-driven systems.
Consider the pros and cons of each motor type and choose the one that aligns with your riding preferences.
One of the most critical aspects of an electric skateboard is its range, as this determines how far you can travel on a single charge. When selecting your board, consider your daily commute distance or the average length of your leisurely rides. Keep in mind that factors such as rider weight, terrain, and speed can impact the actual range.
Additionally, pay attention to the battery's charging time and lifespan. Look for high-quality batteries from reputable brands like Maxfind and Summerboard to ensure long-lasting performance and quick recharge times.
Shop long range electric skateboard.
Speed is another big factor when choosing an electric skateboard. Most boards provide top speeds ranging from 20-45 km/h, depending on the motor and battery specifications.
Consider your skill level and comfort zone when selecting a board with the appropriate top speed.
If you want more control over your ride, choose electric skateboards that come with multiple speed modes, like Maxfind’s Max 2 Pro skateboard, so you can adjust the performance based on your experience and confidence.
Wheels and trucks are essential components that affect your electric skateboard's stability, manoeuvrability, and overall ride quality.
Most electric skateboards come with a handheld remote control for easy operation. Look for a remote with an ergonomic design, responsive controls, and clear indicators for battery life, speed, and mode selection. Some advanced remotes even offer smartphone app integration for additional customization and tracking features.
Finally, consider your budget and the warranty offered by the manufacturer. Our electric skateboards range in price from $495 to $2,295, depending on the features and components.
While it's essential to find a board that fits within your budget, don't compromise on quality and safety. Plus, a solid warranty can provide peace of mind and protection for your investment. All Storm Rides products come with a 12-month or 1,500-kilometre RTB warranty.

Are electric scooters worth it?
10 Benefits of Electric Scooters
How are electric scooters good for your health?
Absolutely. If you value independence, convenience and fun, you should go for an electric scooter. Electric scooters are a cost-effective way of travelling and you never get stuck in traffic! You can save on public transport and fuel costs and pay off your e-scooter within 4-6 months on average.
What are the benefits of riding a scooter? Here are 10 reasons to join those in the know and buy an electric scooter.
We’re all busy and there are only so many hours in the day. An electric scooter gets you where you need to be faster than your feet can carry you.
The first key factor for speed is the scooter type. Scooters can move at a top speed of 12 to 100 km/h.
These span from the child-friendly Razor Pocket Mod Petite to the super fast Nami Burn-e Viper, which is the number one scooter in New Zealand by our votes.
It’s always important to travel at a safe speed for the conditions and environment, which is rarely the maximum speed.

However, even a slow and steady weave along the boulevard is faster than walking. For those with places to be, an e-scooter will get you there without raising a sweat.
Kick scooters are often foldable and can be carried with you on public transport or into the office. They’re the perfect solution for transport on the go and work with easy storage.
Light scooters can also be transported in the car if you need a handy set of wheels to travel short distances after parking.
For recommendations on lightweight, folding e-scooters, check out the Vsett 9+ or the Kaabo Skywalker 10H.
If you're after a little extra luggage that gives you an instant fast ride, e-scooters are for you.
One reason for their popularity is that e-scooters are there when you need them and can cope with different environments around big cities. There are also varieties of scooters available for specific purposes.
It’s important to know your e-scooter and be aware of its limitations. Once you know what to look for, you can assess every model to find the most suitable one for your needs.
RELATED GUIDE: HOW TO CHOOSE AN ELECTRIC SCOOTER?
If range is important, you can prioritise this to learn which scooter is best for long drives with one battery or carrying a spare. The Kaabo Wolf King GT Pro is a great choice with a range of 180 km on a single charge.
To find which scooter is best for daily use, you might browse all-rounder scooters or those preferred for commuting, depending on your everyday needs.
Any rider can find the electric scooter that best suits their needs and lifestyle. There are so many options to choose from.
Browsing for the right model is as easy as checking the boxes on your priorities with the Storm Rides search filter.
Electric scooters come with varying power, range and more. Besides these core aspects of a scooter, you can opt for useful extra features like key start ignition or deck lighting, like the stunning Vsett 8+.
You can also tailor your ride for you by selecting a scooter model with the right handlebar height and rider weight capacity for the individual rider.
E-scooters are generally easy to maintain. Your scooter will keep performing if you buy a good model and keep it in shape.
We recommend carrying out regular checks on the tyres, brakes and battery. You can find more tips in this article on setting up, riding and maintaining your e-scooter.
Correct maintenance will help you get the best from your scooter and avoid potential problems.
Just make sure you understand the limitations of your scooter, and don’t skimp on your purchase. It’s essential to start with a scooter you can trust.
View your initial purchase as an investment. If you pay the price for a good one, you won’t be overpaying for repairs further along, or riding a dangerous scooter.

Although widely misunderstood, e-scooters are actually quite safe to get around on, both for the riders and surrounding traffic.
The important thing is for you, the rider, to understand your scooter, be aware of your skill level and know the rules. Basically, use common sense.
This is no different from any other mode of transport, even though scooters get a bad rap for incidents caused by irresponsible behaviour.
If you ride at appropriate speeds, show consideration for others and take basic precautions like wearing a helmet, you are in safe hands. It’s also key that you choose a safe and reliable scooter to ride.
Electric scooter speed limits and laws can differ from city to city in New Zealand. Check the laws for your city below.
There are also plenty of options for extra accessories like protective gear to help you stay safe on your ride.
Your scooter will save you costs on fuel, parking and public transport. It's priced lower than a car to buy, and is more cost-efficient in the long run.
Besides the initial price of the scooter, you just need to pay for maintenance costs and the electricity for charging.
That being said, the initial cost of purchasing the scooter could determine ongoing expenses.
If you try to get a bargain on an e-scooter under $1,000, you may end up paying dearly for repairs throughout its lifetime.
Even excellent quality electric scooters cost significantly less than a car or electric bike of similar quality.
Trustworthy e-scooter vendors understand that you need value for your money.
That’s why we help you filter your search for scooters in different price brackets, such as under $1,500 or under $3,000
E-scooters are more efficient than a car used for the same trip. They also don’t run on fossil fuels or contribute to emissions per use.
Like anything else, electric scooters aren’t a perfect solution for the environment and they do leave a carbon footprint. This is particularly true about their manufacturing stage.
However, if your scooter takes a less efficient vehicle, like your car, off the road, that’s a win for the environment.
For an even more environmentally friendly option, the Kaabo Wolf range includes an Eco mode for greater efficiency.
You can also have a better impact by making a smart purchase. A good quality scooter with a long-lasting battery is the most environmentally friendly option.
Not having to replace the scooter or its parts as frequently cuts down on waste and effects of the manufacturing process.
Your e-scooter can turn any journey into a recreational experience. It gets you out into the great outdoors and breathing the open air.
The best part is not having to exert yourself, so you can relax and enjoy the ride when exercise isn’t on the cards or you're in your office clothes.
If you have somewhere to be, why not make the most of your journey? Combining their other advantages with the more enjoyable commute, scooters clearly come out on top.
For even more fun, you can find enjoyable variations on the scooter design, like the Razor Crazy Cart XL.
Another reason to love e-scooters is for their surprising health benefits. You don't sweat on an electric scooter, but you still work out a few muscles.
Although it seems like you’re just standing in one place, riding a scooter isn’t the same as standing on solid ground. This particularly active way of standing forces you to engage your core and leg muscles for balance. Your muscles work to keep you stable and maintain an upright posture.
Remember planking? The scooter workout is nowhere near as intense or painful. However, like planking, it’s not as easy as it looks and strengthens a few muscles that sometimes get left out.
There’s so much to love about electric scooters. These top 10 benefits are just the start of it. Hop on our online catalogue and get moving to find out why e-scooters are just right for you.

Ride quality isn’t compromised on this e-scooter that’s super light at 13 kg and also folds at the handlebars and stem.
Budget purchases can quickly become a nightmare when paying through the roof for usage. However, owners of electric scooters know this is not a problem.
Yes, e-scooters are extremely economical. A 500Wh battery costs less than 16 cents to charge in New Zealand.
This is not based on the scooter’s power output, but the scooter’s watt-hours. To find the watt-hours, multiply battery watts by the hours used on a normal day.
For a more precise figure on recharging cost, you can run the details of your scooter and home electricity plan through an electricity cost calculator.
The economical advantages of using an e-scooter is worth the investment of the up-front cost. Saving money down the line gives you more freedom to start with a trustworthy model.
Provided your e-scooter is of reasonable quality, to begin with, you can expect to get a few good years from it. E-scooters can generally stay in use for 3 to 5 years.
The Kaabo Skywalker 8S, for example, has a high durability with a maximum of 33 miles.
The lifespan of your e-scooter also depends on proper care and maintenance. Read on for important tips on prolonging the life of your scooter.
While the battery is pricey and takes special care, the rest of the scooter will benefit from regular care and attention.
Pushing the scooter beyond its load or terrain limitations, for example, can lead to strain on the body. This will eventually result in damage to the scooter.

Will your electric scooter be able to complete the ride? Here is a quick guide to IP ratings and the truth about waterproof electric scooters.
Here’s what’s covered,
What is IP rating for e scooter? Quick, Easy Answer
What do different IP ratings mean?IP54 or IPX4
IP55 or IPX5
IP56 or IPX6
An IP rating is an Ingress Protection rating. This is a system developed by the International Electrochemical Commission (IEC) to standardise the grading of electric products based on their ability to withstand the ingress of liquids or dust.
This is what an IP Rating includes,
If you see the letter X, it means no data relating to that area has been collected. See here for more deets.
Example: You may have read things such as IP56 in the product description of an electric scooter. In this case, the number 5 represents debris resistance, and the number 6 represents water resistance.
The higher the number or IP Rating is, the higher the resistance to the ingress of soil and water. The IP rating is also the official water resistance rating.
The list below summarises what IP ratings mean and explains the IP ratings of top-rated scooters available at Storm Rides.
It is organised from low water resistance to high water resistance (the best IP rating).
IP Rating | Electric scooters with this IP rating |
IP54 or IPX4 Some degree of water resistance. Can ride on,
However, it is not recommended to use it regularly in wet conditions. Limited protection from dust. |
|
IP55 or IPX5 Medium water resistance. Can handle riding in steady, light rain and puddles. However, be conscious that there is no guarantee that it won’t harm the electronics.Limited protection from dust. |

Water-resistant and waterproof are two terms that can be confusing.
On the other hand, waterproof refers to greater water protection.
A waterproof electric scooter can resist or be submerged entirely in water for an extended period.
At this stage, there is no set industry standard that a product must meet to be described as waterproof.
If your e-scooter is waterproof, it is implied it can withstand snow, rain, and being driven through puddles.
Currently, a fully waterproof electric scooter doesn't exist. Even scooters with the best water protection can only be classified as water-resistant.
As mentioned earlier, IP ratings provide guidance on the level of protection provided.
Even if your e-scooter comes with a great IP rating, remember that water seepage into the internal compartment can still lead to damage and will void your warranty.
To check if it is safe for your electric scooter to go in the rain, you need to know what the IP rating is.
Like other vehicles, the tyres of the scooter will have less grip and visibility in rain and the braking conditions will also change.
This is usually provided in your electric scooter manual or instruction guide, or you can look it up online.
Electric scooters that are rated IPx4 can usually go in light rain. Electric scooters rated IPx5, and IPx6 can generally go in puddles and light, constant rain.
If you are riding your electric scooter in the rain, you need to be cautious and aware of your surroundings and safety.
The rain can damage your electric scooter internally and externally.
Manufacturers do not recommend riding electric scooters in heavy rain, especially if you want to stay safe, avoid injuries and use your e-scooter for many years to come.
Water damage is usually not covered by warranties, regardless of the IP rating.
If you find yourself in rainy weather conditions and are going to ride in the rain make sure you wear appropriate safety gear such as
Items such as your phone, wallet and keys can be kept safe and dry in a water-resistant scooter case (one of the handy accessories that made our must-have electric scooter accessories list).
Remember safety is key and depending on the type of electric scooter you have it may be best to wait for the rain to pass or find another form of transport.

Getting a scooter that's appropriate for your weight is super important. For example, this beast of scooter - the Emove Roadrunner is suitable for riders on the heavier side as it has a Max Load of 200kg.
Yes, it's important to find a scooter appropriate for your height and weight. This allows the scooter to function at its best for the individual rider. Scooters aren’t usually adjustable, so you need to choose the best option for your weight from the outset.
Every scooter has a maximum load weight, and this can vary widely. Weight capacity may max out at anywhere between 50 kg (for children’s scooters) and 200 kg. Every model of scooter comes with a weight restriction.
Scooters such as the Kaabo Skywalker and Kaabo Mantis can hold up to 120kg, whereas models like the Mercane WideWheel (Single and Dual Motor) can only withstand a maximum of 100kg.
And if you're a bigger guy, with larger requirements, the Cruiser Fat Tyre Scooter can take up to 200kg. The Mercane WideWheel and the Cruiser Fat Tyre Scooter are also desirable options for heavier riders, due to their high-quality build.
Using materials such as metal alloy chassis (featured in the Mercane) and tube steel (featured the Cruiser), these scooters offer that extra bit of stability.
These scooters tend to be more portable, which could mean foldable and/or lightweight (scooter weight of under 23 kg).
They usually travel at lower speeds and are designed for going the extra distance rather than long treks.
E-scooters like the Kaabo Skywalker 10H, is great for commuting as its easy to fold and carry on the train or bus.
E-scooters for this purpose tend to be reasonably powerful and often run on double engines.

Range is about how far you can go before needing to recharge, which is no small consideration.
Since charging takes a minimum of several hours depending on the model, this will really affect the use you get from your scooter.
The fastest charging e-scooters take at least four to five hours to charge. For some scooters, a full recharge can take as long as seventeen hours.
Range is usually tested in easy conditions with a rider of low weight on flat ground. This testing can be very different from real-world use, giving an optimistic figure.
Also note that varied riding conditions decrease range. These include;
If you feel too limited, you might consider a scooter with a swappable battery so that you can extend your range on the go.
Advertised top speeds range from 12 km/h to 100 km/h. However, a scooter’s quoted top speed is probably not what you will experience throughout your ride. There are real world factors that alter speed.
Additionally, you may need to reduce speed for safety under certain conditions.
For example, it would not be safe to travel at high speed in wet weather or on uneven terrain.
You are unlikely to travel at the suggested top speed for the duration of your journey.
Bear this in mind as you compare scooters, and plan your journeys accordingly.
Some scooters will have different speed modes, or gears, which allow you to manage power and speed.
Additionally, kids’ scooters often allow for speed control, meaning that a parent can set a top speed to ensure the safety of the young rider.
Every e-scooter comes with information on its motor type and power. However, power in watts is not always a straightforward measure for comparison.
The figure you are given may reflect continuous power, which is the total power available on a sustained basis.
On the other hand, it could refer to peak power, which is the maximum power a scooter can employ in a short time.
Peak power and real power can be very different, and it may be hard to tell which one has been given in the specifications for your model.
As a result, the power wattage can be helpful but should not be relied on to give a complete picture of a particular model.
E-scooters can be equipped with one or two motors. Another reason not to put great store by advertised power is that this may be taken from combining the power of two unequal motors.
The number and placement of motors don't just affect power. Here is an overview of how motors impact your ride.
This is the cheapest design. It gives good traction, is compact, efficient and works well in wet conditions. A front motor is not as good for riding uphill.
A rear motor is of moderate cost and tends to be safer. This design is particularly good for turns.
These scooters are more powerful and have better weight distribution. The design also combines the best features of both front and rear placement, such as traction and turning ability. You can expect to pay higher prices for double motors.
Besides the seven aspects above (seat, price, load, purpose, range, speed and power), there are plenty of other features to think about. Here are a few more points to look out for.
This is separate from load weight. While load is about the rider, this specification is about the scooter itself.
A lighter scooter has more power going up hills than a heavier scooter with the same motor.
On the flipside, your scooter may be heavier because it has a more powerful motor.
Note that a lighter scooter is easier to carry, which might affect its portability.
There are numerous ways to keep your scooter safe. Some scooters have the added security of a key lock.
You can also find models with built-in alarms and/or keyless ignition. Your scooter may come with a bonus cable lock.
Otherwise, you can buy a separate lock or alarm.
Your scooter may come with the option of removing the battery. This can be extremely helpful if you're worried about range.
Carrying a spare fully charged battery gives added assurance of reaching your destination without a problem.
The removable battery also gives more flexibility for charging.
It means you can hook up the battery without needing the whole scooter to be present.
You can also leave a battery at home charging while the e-scooter stays in use.
This is a feature you won't find on every scooter, but something you may want if you'll be scooting around busy traffic.
Your scooter may have one set of turn signals on the handlebars, or double sets on the front and back.
You're now on the way to choosing your electric scooter. There's a perfect scooter for you. You just have to find it.

The Cobham 1.4km shared path provides a convenient and safe connection between East Wellington and the CBD—making the track ideal for eastern residents looking to get amongst the fresh air during their daily commute.
It's flat, next to the water, and offers enough space for all users. What more could you want in a riding spot?
Te Whiti Riser is ideal for an off-road adventure. The shared walking/cycling track offers a smooth(ish), wide path that follows a gentle gradient from Waiwhetu to the Eastern Hilltops.
With this in mind, this spot is most suited for ultra-durable scooters, such as the Kaabo Wolf Warrior (aka the Beast!). The inclines are well worth the views!
Tucked away on the Southeast side of the city centre is the charming Lyall Bay. In addition to its surf appeal, the area is ideal for a cruisy seaside scoot. The fresh air and surrounding cafes are likely to work up quite the appetite—with Maranui Cafe being a superb lunch spot!
The Leonie Gill Pathway runs from Kilbirnie to Rongotai and offers connecting routes to popular spots such as Lyall Bay.
The practical path is designed for a range of users, so remember to share with care and use your bell (when needed) to alert walkers.
Although only 1km in length, this wide circuit path offers a fun, family-friendly spot. With its gravel and lime-chip surface, there might be a few little bumps during your ride (but nothing your scooter can’t handle!).
You can access the park via Karori Road or neighbouring streets.
Another great off-road scooter adventure is the Red Rocks Coastal Track. The rugged (yet enchanting) 5.9km path follows the South Coast shoreline—offering fantastic ocean vibes.
Plus, if you’re going for a ride in winter, your journey may also include some seal-spotting as they seem to congregate here during the cooler months.
Just be sure to keep your distance and let them do their thing.

Take some time to familiarise yourself with how your electric scooter works.
If something doesn’t look or sound right, look into it further and get it fixed before taking any risks by riding the scooter. If everything is functioning as it should be, it’s time to ride!
If it’s your first time riding an electric scooter, try take it to a place with minimal traffic and no hills. For example, an empty car park is a great option. This way you can focus on learning in a safe environment at your own pace.
First, hold onto the handlebars. Starting to ride is as simple as putting one foot on the deck, kicking off and pushing down on the accelerator. For the best balance, you can place your non-dominant foot facing forward on the deck, kick off, lean forward and hold onto the handlebars with both hands. Once you are moving you can place your dominant foot on the deck behind your non-dominant foot.
Different kinds of e-scooters will have different forms of throttles. If your scooter has different modes, set it to the slowest mode while you’re learning how to ride your electric scooter. It is best to use a soft touch in the beginning to get the scooter moving. Remember to keep your weight forward when accelerating. Put your weight on your rear foot and use that foot to help your body lean forward. This will keep you from pulling on the handlebars. Once you start feeling stable, experiment with the throttle.
When riding your electric scooter, turning the handlebars will cause your electric scooter to turn. Like the throttle, the movements should be slow and steady to keep the ride as smooth as possible. You may need to engage your core and adjust your weight to maintain balance. You should keep the handlebars mostly straight. Try to rely on shifting your weight and leaning to steer. Shifting your weight is important to keep the scooter upright. If you turn the handlebars too far you can cause the scooter to fall.
Pull on the brake lever to slow the scooter and come to a stop. Be sure to pull it slowly as you can be thrown from the scooter if it is too abrupt. When braking, bend your knees and shift your weight back over your rear leg as though you are about to sit down. Never take your hands off the handlebars!
When riding your electric scooter, make sure to look straight ahead so you can see where you’re going. This way you can identify any hazards coming up, and be ready to steer or brake accordingly. Each ride will have different conditions so be aware of your speed and adjust it to the conditions around you. Remember to enjoy your ride but also ride within your personal limits.
Just like it’s important to know the road rules when driving a car or riding a motorcycle, it’s important to know the road rules associated with riding electric scooters as well. Each country and city has its own rules and regulations when it comes to electric scooters. Make sure to find out the specific rules for your area to avoid any issues.
Once you get comfortable with these steps, riding your electric scooter will be like riding a bike! To make the most out of your e-scooter, you can also ask an experienced friend to help you learn and get on the right track.

Their Electric Scooter list is having a long overdue update, and we are pleased to see multiple scooters from the STORM RIDES stable being added to the list.
We hope to see more e scooters being added, especially some of the awesome market leading Nami and the top end of the Kaabo range like the Wolf range, and perhaps something from the Apollo and Vsett ranges which have been making waves recently.

]]>The leading E Scooter Brands like Kaabo, Apollo, and Mercane have all broken through and maintained market share. Most scooters are really just a collection of parts with a label stuck on - they have no real soul or positioning - and that is what separates the Players from the Pretenders.
The Vsetts at first glance do appear to be just another Titan build, using the tried and true, and many would now say 'Tired' look and feel of the form factor which Zero Scooters made popular, and the earlier Apollo Scooters have continued.
However upon closer inspection and hours the STORM RIDES team spend trawling E Scooter Facebook groups reading the comments and posts, reviewing the best scooter review sites and YouTube channels such as ESG USA and Ride and Glide UK, we are starting to think there is something to this new entrant.
The Vsett is the brainchild of the same people who brought the world Zero... so potentially what we are looking at here is the long awaited, upgraded, successor to this immensely popular range of electric scooter.
Which Electic Scooter you buy is a personal decision, some people want the Fastest and Most Powerful Electric Scooter they can get. Others are looking for a well designed and good looking E Scooter for Under $1500 like the Apollo Air Pro. Then there are the exciting new hybrid Scooter / Ebikes like the Seated E Scooter Fiido.
At STORM RIDES we have learned over the years of visiting China trade shows, importing, selling and servicing electric scooters that the first iterations of any brand are most likely to have issues. Howver as mentioned above the Vsett is not really a 'new' brand it is an 'evolution'if the Zero - so it is fair to expect big things.
Vsett import rights have been secured by a trustworthy player in the NZ E Scooter market and we will be bringing Vsett to the STORM RIDES stable of scooters, and you know if we are going to be stocking it there is real promise to the brand.
So it is currently to early to tell whether Vsett will be a real Player or Pretender but the early signs are all positive.

However in more recent years the brand has been slipping behind, not keeping pace with changes in technology and growing expectations of consumers.
The Most Striking thing to note about the ZERO Scooter range - and probably the reason for them starting to decline is that they are a 'Sticker Brand'
A Sticker Brand is a term used for a brand that basically ads its logo to an off the shelf model being produced by a factory usually with some minor spec changes.
There is a factory in China that produces the Unicool (Titan) the most popular model as far as we can ascertain is its T8 model.
"
The Unicool T8 from the Titan Group, is one of the most popular scooters in the world that you’ve probably never heard of.
The reason being that Titan is an OEM distributor, meaning that they are the producers of parts and assembled electric scooters that are branded and primarily sold by others.
Some of the biggest international brands of the Unicool T8 are the Apollo Light, Fluid FreeRide Horizon, and Zero 8.
Though all are built from the base Unicool T8, each brand has configured the scooter differently; each sells at different price points and with different warranty durations and features.
" Source
Some brands such as Apolllo make significant changes to the base model and have moved forward rapidly to develop their own custom Apollo Electric Scooter Range whereas others pretty much stick to the baseline model. Another major reatiler branding the Titan is Fluid Freeride with their Horizon model, Fkuid are a top US based scooter retailer and carry a very similar range to STORM RIDES with Kaabo and Mercane being the backbone.
In NZ there are two prominant scooter brands that appear to be sticker brands for factory base models. ZERO and SONIC. So if that is the scooter that you want make sure you price and spec and service/warranty compare between the sellers of those scooters.
However if you are looking for a brand on the rise we recommend (and sell) Kaabo, and we recommend (and will hopfully soon be selling) the Apollo range also.
Overall we still rate the ZERO as a decent scooter brand, but now if you are looking at any specific model you will typically find that there is a better scooter on the market for a similar (or even lower) price point, or the same price point but higher specced - especially the Kaabo Electric Scooter Range and in some cases Apollo as mentioned above.
NB: All information in this artice is based on the research we have done and is true to our knowledge at the time of publication. The market is fast moving and companies do change factories over time.
